A captain's license, if there's a motor
Carry paying passengers on a motorized boat in federally navigable water and the U.S. Coast Guard requires a license: the OUPV, or 'six-pack,' for up to 6 passengers, or a Master for more. It takes 360 days on the water, an exam, a TWIC card, a drug test, and CPR. Wade and walk-and-wade guiding usually falls outside it, and state rules apply instead.
