Sea Dawg Charter

Every trip listed by this Fort Morgan operation leaves from the same place, the Fort Morgan Boat Launch, and every one of them runs four hours. Inshore charters push off at 6:30 in the morning and work the bay for sea trout, redfish, sheepshead, southern flounder, tripletail and Spanish mackerel. Offshore charters leave at 7:00 and are built around red snapper during the open season, including a weekend only version tied to short seasonal openings.

Captain Eddie Permenter holds a USCG license and states more than 30 years of fishing experience. The boat is a 24 foot Robalo center console with a 300 horsepower Yamaha, rigged with GPS, a fish finder, a wireless trolling monitor, a live baitwell and an icebox. It takes a maximum of six guests, and the base price on most trips covers three.

Tackle is Shimano throughout: Stradic spinning reels, Calcutta bait casters and Trinidad deep drop reels on Trevala rods. Across the trip types Permenter covers spinning, jigging, popping, fly fishing, drift fishing and bottom fishing, so the same hull handles light inshore presentations and heavier bottom work offshore. Gear, bait, fishing licenses and catch cleaning are all included in the trip price.

Three of the five listed inshore trips run the same water for the same four hours but are written for different audiences: one for families, one for children and first time anglers, and one for experienced anglers who want to work on technique. Dates are held through a calendar on the site with no charge taken at the point of selection. Clients bring their own snacks, drinks, sunscreen, hat and sunglasses, and are advised to bring life jackets sized for young children.
